Jolabokaflod Cozy Kits

What is Jolabokaflod?

Jolabokaflod, roughly translated as "Christmas Book Flood" in English, is an Icelandic tradition of exchanging books as gifts on Christmas Eve and spending that night reading and drinking hot cocoa.

Jolabokaflod started during World War II, when Iceland gained independence from Denmark in 1944. During this period, paper was one of the commodities not rationed so books became a cherished gift! People started exchanging books on Christmas Eve and would spend the rest of that night cuddled up with a good book and a cup of hot cocoa!
